Once such herb that is commonly blended with shilajit is ashwagandha. How can you know whether or not ashwagandha blended with shilajit will actually be beneficial? Let’s look at the pros and cons:

What is Ashwagandha?

First, we need to learn more about ashwagandha. It is an herb commonly used in the Ayurvedic medicine tradition. A shrub that belongs to the same family as the tomato, it bears red fruit, has yellow flowers and oval leaves, and can be found originally growing in the Middle East, north Africa, and India. Today, it is even grown in the US. Traditionally, it is used to reinvigorate and rejuvenate. It has been found to contain many beneficial chemicals, such as:

Alkaloids

Choline

Fatty Acids

Withanolides

Amino Acids

What are the Benefits of Ashwagandha?

Many studies have been completed discussing the health benefits of this healing herb. The benefits often discussed are the ability to stabilize blood sugar, lower cholesterol, protect the immune system, as an anti-inflammatory, reduces brain-cell degeneration, memory improvement, sexual enhancer for both men and woman, and as an anti-malarial. Another reason ashwagandha is used is that is an adaptogenic herb – they help your body cope with changes in the environment.

The most commonly counterfeited products are those where the shilajit is far removed from its original, resin form (e.g. powder or capsules). Use a shilajit product in resin form, or find a product where resin shilajit is encapsulated with aswhagandha.

Blending Shilajit and Ashwagandha: Pros and Cons

In theory, it seems that ashwagandha would be perfectly blended with shilajit. They mirror each other’s benefits, so it seems they would make a perfect blend. Unfortunately, you need to be careful when you see products that blend other herbs with shilajit. This is because shilajit is commonly counterfeited. It is easy to say you are selling shilajit when it is blended with other herbs, because the consistency changes. It is much more difficult to counterfeit pure shilajit in resin form. The most commonly counterfeited products are those where the shilajit is far removed from its original form, as in a powder or capsule product. Some products are legitimate, however. If you can find a product that takes shilajit resin and encapsulates it with ashwagandha – i.e. the product is in resin form within a capsule, this is a good option, and the product is likely pure and beneficial. Use your judgement when choosing an ashwagandha and shilajit blend. If you are looking for the potency of shilajit, use it in its purest form. If you choose to find a product with an ashwagandha blend, be sure the company provides detailed lab reports on the potency and effectiveness of the product.

Look for shilajit that has detailed lab reports on effectiveness!
