Shilajit and the Prevention of Alzheimer’s

Alzheimer’s Disease is common across the world. Worldwide, it is reported that nearly 44 million people have Alzheimer’s, or dementia (source). And, the numbers could be much worse in reality – according to Alzheimer’s Disease International, only one in four people have been diagnosed.

Alzheimer’s Prevention Should Be at the Top of Our List

It is a terrible disease that impacts the lives of countless people – both the people who suffer the disease itself, and the loved ones who are watching them deteriorate. When looking at these statistics, it is obvious that the prevention of Alzheimer’s should be at the top of our list of health concerns. This is why we are focusing on this topic for this week’s blog post. In a recent study completed by the International Journal of Alzheimer’s Disease, it was found that shilajit has potential as a dietary supplement to prevent Alzheimer’s. Let’s take a look at why this study doesn’t surprise us:

Ayurvedic medicine has been using shilajit for anti-aging for thousands of years.

Anti-Aging Treatment for Thousands of Years

The study about the potential benefits of shilajit for the prevention of Alzheimer’s was published in 2012, but Ayurvedic medicine has been using it for anti-aging for thousands of years. And, Sherpas have excellent health and longevity, and have used shilajit for generations.

Shilajit and the Prevention of Alzheimer’s: The Studies

Multiple studies have been done to research the possible prevention of Alzheimer’s through the use of shilajit. Today, we’ll look at two separate studies:

Official Journal of the Instituto Mexicano del Seguro Social:

According to this study about whether or not nutraceuticals can prevent Alzheimer’s disease, the studies found that “shilajit and its active principle fulvic acid, as well as a formula of shilajit with B complex vitamins, emerge as novel nutraceutical with potential uses against this brain disorder.”

International Journal of Alzheimer’s Disease

According to this extensive study about the study of fulvic acid (the main element of shilajit), and how it blocks tau self-aggregation, which opens up an avenue toward the study of Alzheimer’s therapy. In conclusion, the study states that “Shilajit  is a potent and very safe dietary supplement, potentially able to prevent several diseases, but its main medical application now appears to come from its actions in benefit of cognition and potentially as a dietary supplement to prevent Alzheimer’s disease.”

As you can see, both studies have found that shilajit has great potential as a prevention for Alzheimer’s. And, because it is a “very safe” supplement, and has been used for thousands of years successfully in the Ayurvedic traditions, it is logical to try it as a prevention for this terrible disease.
